Join Jubilate chamber choir and guest artists Olympus Brass Quintet with “Songs of Service and Sacrifice” to honor those who served. A freewill offering will be accepted.
Eccles Organ Festival Concert — Sunday, Nov. 9, 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. Recital by Emma Whitten, associate organist at Christ Cathedral in the Catholic Diocese of Orange County, Calif., featuring an early Baroque and contemporary repertoire. Free admission. The performance will be livestreamed on the festival’s YouTube channel.
“Our Sacred Lake” Interfaith Gathering — Tuesday, Nov. 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. The evening will include readings from Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’, live music and Utah State Poet Laureate Lisa Bickmore. A call to action with Dr. Ben Abbott and a procession of wildlife dependent on the lake will conclude the evening. Free and open to the public.
Eccles Organ Festival Open Gallery Night — Friday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. Enjoy a private tour led by one of the cathedral tour guides, learn about the history and functioning of the organ, and play your favorite music on the cathedral’s Eccles Memorial Organ. Workshop for Parish Vocation Ministries — Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, SLC. Parishioners and deacons are invited to hear national speaker Bob McMorrow on creating a culture of vocations. Attendees will learn how to effectively promote vocations to the priesthood, consecrated life and marriage in their parish. No cost and lunch will be provided. Pastoral Center Closed — The Diocese of Salt Lake City Pastoral Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning at noon on Nov. 26. It will reopen Monday, Dec. 1, at 8:30 a.m.
Several pro-life organizations are sponsoring an essay contest for elementary, middle-school and high-school students. Students are invited to write a 500-word essay based on one of two provided prompts and submit their entry by Nov. 7. Prizes include cash, pro-life gear and a chance to be published on the Culture of Life Studies Program website. Visit prolifeessay.com for entry guidelines.
CCS’ Basic Needs Salt Lake is in need of winter weather donations to support clients experiencing homelessness as temperatures drop. Donation needs include coats, pants, men’s clothing, blankets, scarves, gloves, socks and sweatshirts to keep clients warm. Donations can be made weekdays 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. at 437 West 200 South, SLC.
