Beat the Bomb — sponsored by the Utah Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Friday, Sept. 23, 6 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the Rice Pavilion at Liberty Park, 900 South 700 East, SLC. Includes Burundi, Japanese Taiko, Congolese and West African drumming, and ceremonial tree planting. Free and open to the public.

Oktoberfest — at St. Olaf Parish, 1800 S. Orchard Dr., Bountiful. Saturday, Sept. 24, 1-10 p.m. Children’s games, inflatables, live entertainment and a beer/wine garden. Serving Mexican, Filipino, Italian and German food. All are welcome. 

Revised Rite of Celebrating Matrimony Workshop — for wedding coordinators, prep teams and musicians. Saturday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m. – noon at St. John the Baptist Parish, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. To register, call Trisha, 801-328-8641 ext. 323 by Sept. 21. Registration is required. The Revised Rite of Celebrating Matrimony will take effect Dec. 30; changes will be discussed at the workshop. 

Spaghetti Dinner — to benefit Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 2840 South 9000 West, Magna. Sunday, Sept. 25, 1-5 p.m. Take out begins at 11 a.m. Adults: $13; children: $8. Basket raffle drawing.

Class on Catholic Dogma — Patience Kabamba, an anthropology professor at Utah Valley University, will offer four classes on the role of dogma in the Catholic faith. The one-hour classes are scheduled for 7 p.m. on the following Mondays: Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 28 and Jan. 23 in the Dominguez Room of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church’s classroom building, 65 East 500 North, Orem. Free and open to the public.

Open House — at Catholic Community Services’ Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank, 2504 F Ave., Ogden, to see how CCS works to fight hunger every day. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 5-7 p.m.
 
Steak Fry — Knights of Columbus Council 5502’s annual event will be Saturday, Oct. 1 at St. Olaf Parish, 276 East 1700 South, Bountiful, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets: $25/adult, $5 children’s meal. Tickets available after the weekend Masses beginning Sept. 10. On parish game night, Friday, Sept. 9, tickets will be available for $20.

Women’s Retreat — Saturday, Oct. 1 at St. James Parish, 1st North 100 West, Vernal, 8:30 a.m. check-in. The day of inspiration, worship and activities, titled “Laugh, Love, Live the Faith,” will be led by Maria Devereux and Jeanne Lachowski. Retreat with Pope Francis — six 25-minute DVD conferences and discussion with Rev. Anthony Ciorra, Ph.D at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish rectory, 670 South 1100 East, SLC. The discussions will take place between the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses from Oct. 2 to Nov. 6.

Free Concert — The Saint Ann’s Bell Choir will perform a free concert on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m. at the church, 450 East 2100 South, SLC. Light refreshments will be served.

Eccles Organ Festival —Sunday, Oct. 9, 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. Organ recital with Jens Korndörfer of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Ga. Free and open to the public.  

Fashion Show Luncheon — The annual Catholic Woman’s League event will be Saturday, Oct. 22 at Little America Hotel, 500 S. Main, SLC. This year’s proceeds will benefit Kearns-Saint Ann School’s reading program and the Weigand Homeless Resource Center. Tickets are $38; RSVP to patty@camrina.com or 801-571-6952.

Best practices — for inviting, assisting and organizing fellow parishioners to deepen, in concrete ways, their baptismal call to social ministry. Three-part training by the Diocese of Salt Lake City and Catholic Relief Services: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10. Registration required.
