Solemnity of the Holy Mother of God — Tuesday, Jan. 1 is not a holy day of obligation. In the Diocese of Salt Lake City, the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God has been abrogated.

Epiphany Concert — Sunday, Jan. 6, 3 p.m. heArt Music Ensemble will present a free Epiphany concert at Sacred Heart Parish, 946 South 200 East, SLC.

Eccles Organ Festival — Sunday, Jan. 13, 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC, with Gabriele Terrone and the Madeleine Brass Ensemble. The performance will include the world premiere of “Preludio, Cantilena e Finale” by Fabrizio Callai, a commission of the Eccles Organ Festival to celebrate its silver anniversary. Monsignor Benvegnu Lecture — Monday Jan. 14, 7 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 1375 Spring Lane, SLC. Fr. John E. Norman, pastor, will present “A Catholic Response to the Death Penalty.” Free and open to the public.

Mass for the Unborn and Ceremony of Light — Thursday, Jan. 17, 6 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. All are invited to join Bishop Oscar A. Solis at the celebration.

March For Life Utah — Saturday, Jan. 26, 1 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol. Speakers include Angela Forker, Lindsey Tafengatoto, Hilarie Petersen, M.C. Rod Arquette and singer Kelsey Edwards. “Try prayer! It works!” Contest — Family Rosary’s 2019 “Try prayer! It works!” contest encourages children to express their beliefs through art, poetry, prose and a new category this year: video. The competition is open to students in grades K-12 enrolled in a Catholic school, religious education program, parish or other organization, including home school. This year’s theme is “Mary, Mother of the Church.” The first-place winner in each category receives $100; the sponsor of each winner also receives $100. Scout Religious Emblems — Now is the time for all Catholic scouts (Girl, Cub, Boy and Venturers) to begin work on their respective religious emblems. Awarding of emblems is tentatively scheduled for Scout Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Cathedral of the Madeleine with Bishop Oscar A. Solis presiding.
