OGDEN — Izzy Felix, a sophomore at St. Joseph Catholic High School, is a creative, global thinker who uses all of her talents to benefit her community. Izzy has been selected from a group of youth in Ogden to participate in the start up of the city’s first youth city council.

Nurture the Creative Mind, a nonprofit organization in Ogden whose mission is to empower and establish self-value through creativity, is sponsoring this group, and formally petitioned the Ogden City Council to create the first Ogden City Youth Council.

The youth council is comprised of eight to 12 members between 14 and 18 years old from all local Ogden schools. Their purpose is to raise funds and assist the city in activities that promote growth in their community. Activities will include clothing drives, litter pick up and general fundraising.

In addition to her participation in Nurture the Creative Mind, Izzy entered a local art competition that had the theme “A creation inspired by the pandemic as told by Your Ogden community.” Two of Izzy’s pieces were selected for the feature printed as an insert in the November edition of Ogden Connects Magazine, The insert included artwork, poems, stories and murals reflecting on the pandemic.

Izzy is an accomplished artist; her work also earned honorable mention in the Eccles Art Exhibit, Petite Impressions.

In addition, she is a DJ, sketches, is an avid outdoor enthusiast, and one of the Jayhawk finest.

There is no limit to what students can accomplish when given the tools to shine. St. Joseph Catholic High School is blessed to have these amazing students grace its doors and shine a beacon of light in the community.

Kari Lane is alumni/enrollment/marketing manager for St. Joseph Catholic High School.
