Bishop Solis celebrates Las Posadas

On Dec. 18, Bishop Oscar A. Solis celebrated las posadas at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Las posadas is a traditional Hispanic Christmas novena that reenacts Joseph and Mary’s search for lodging during their trip from Nazareth to Bethlehem. For this year’s celebration, Bishop Solis stood outside the cathedral doors singing the traditional song asking for shelter. He was accompanied by musicians and two children dressed as Mary and Joseph. Parishioners inside the cathedral responded as residents of the inn. The celebration afterward included piñatas, hot cocoa and sweet bread. The children also received an aguinaldo – a bag filled with candies. IC photo/Laura Vallejo
