Blandina Govea Tuero

SALT LAKE CITY — Blandina Govea Tuero, 87, died April 18.

Tuero was born June 5, 1921, in Hartshorne, Okla., to Raphael Tomas Govea and Antonia Medel Gomea. Throughout her life and many hardships, she never complained, but rather lived a life of generosity, kindness, and service to others. She taught her cultural traditions and life lessons to her family through the art of cooking and baking, which she learned on the farm and through her military service as a cook and baker during World War II. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Joanne Tuero, Manuel Velez (Richard Ordonez), daughters, Makyla, Madalyn, Maria (Jose) Lopez; son Antonio, daughter Elena, Manuel and Andrea Velez-Tuero; Carmen and Jose Chiapa (Guillermo and Renee Chiapa), son Derek, Vecente and Natalia Chiapa, Diana and Mark Murphy (DJ and Glory Murphy, daughter, Kiara, and son Matthew,) Traci Murphy and daughter Isabelle, John and Michelle Tuero (John and Amanda Tuero, son Kian, daughters Eliana and Chloe, Tiffany Tuero), Anna Maria and Lynn Tidwell, Jennifer, and daughter Jalyn Coleman, Lee and Deanna Coleman, daughters Nakari, and Nakeyah, Ernest, Jr., Tidwell, and Taylor Tidwell, Richard and Julia Garcia, Richard Garcia, Jr., and sons, Solano and Marcel, Nichole Garcia, Benito Garcia and partner Ann, sons, Nathaniel and Christian Garcia, Carlos Garcia; sisters, Ermelinda Mizzi, Mary Figueroa, and Maria J. Rayner.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
