SANDY — The students and staff of Blessed Sacrament Catholic School hosted the 6th Annual Grandparents’ & Grandfriends’ Day on Sept. 13. More than 275 guests attended the event, which began with an all-school Mass. A new tradition took place during Mass. Each 7th-grade student processed in with their kindergarten ‘buddy.’ Prior to the close of Mass, the 7th-grade students introduced their kindergarten ‘buddy’ to the entire congregation, and the Class of 2021 received a huge round of applause. Following Mass, coffee was served in the gym while visitors listened to the school choir perform. After classroom tours, guests and students enjoyed lunch together and the students presented gifts to their guests that were created during art class. All students at the school also spent two weeks creating individual prayer flags to commemorate International Peace Day, which was Sept. 21. Under the direction of art teacher Marcy Mullholand, the students studied Tibetan prayer flags, including the history, use of, and symbols typically found on prayer flags. The instruction also involved a tribute to 9/11, including discussions about events on that day. Students also were able to view examples of art work created by children who were directly affected by 9/11. The prayer flags created by Blessed Sacrament students were installed in front of the school for the entire community to view. Following International Peace Day, the flags were hung inside of the school for the remainder of the year. Courtesy story/Blessed Sacrament School
