The Most Rev. John C. Wester, Bishop of Salt Lake, prepares to sign postcards that will be sent to Utah legislators, asking them to support immigration legislation reform. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sponsored a nationwide postcard campaign for the week of Jan. 10. In Utah, the parish response has been "heartwarming," said Dee Rowland, the diocese's government liaison. "It is so essential to hear from the previously silent majority." Bishop Wester will deliver the postcards in person to the legislators' offices in February. "This is important because they need to know how we feel," Bishop Wester said. The postcard campaign will continue through January at various parishes; the postcards also may be signed online at www.justiceforimmigrants.org
