Carmen Sirianni SALT LAKE CITY — Carmen Sirianni, 98, died June 9, 2010 in the home of his daughter and care giver Tina, and son-in-law Sam Lewis. Sirianni was born Dec. 13, 1911 in Pedivigliano, Italy, Province De Cosenza, Calabria, to Joseph and Nicoletta Chiodo Sirianni. In 1920 at age 9, he arrived at Ellis Island with his mother and brother Frank. His knowledge and wisdom far surpassed his high school education. He worked many years tending bar, served during World War II, and retired from the Rio Grande Railroad. For many years, he helped unconditionally to financially support his parents and siblings. At age of 53, he married Albina Alberico on Feb. 27, 1965, and they had two children. She preceded him in death. Carmen was known as "Uncle" not only to his many nieces and nephews, but also to his friends, neighbors and the Italian American Civic League members, where he also was the patriarch and the only surviving charter member from 1934. He was proud of his Italian heritage. If you needed help with the garden, plumbing, historical facts, or just where to buy the tastiest produce, he could tell you. He was always ready for any social event and he could always rally for a trip to Wendover, or outlast and beat any youngster in late-night poker games. A year ago, he was able to visit Italy with his family, where he stole the hearts of all he came in contact with. He was blessed with the love, support and care of his sister Catherine Fratto. He is survived by his children Tina Marie (Sam) Lewis; two grandsons, Dominic and Angelo; sister Catherine (Sirianni) Fratto. They emulated the perfect brother-sister relationship. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
