December 25, 1929 ~ March 14, 2025

Our loving mother and pillar of our family, Catalina Luna Salazar, 95, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025 with her family by her side.

Catalina was born in Pachuca Hidalgo, Mexico. Catalina immigrated to the United States in 1959 in order to help provide for her family. She had only planned to stay in the U.S. for one year and then return to Mexico, but God had other plans. She found the love of her life, our father, Antonio de Jesus “Tony” Salazar. Tony and Catalina spent their years together inseparable, cherishing every moment with their family, friends, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Our parents welcomed everyone with open arms, treating and considering everyone as family. To many, our mother was more than just a friend – she became their tía, abuelita, hermana or amiga, a source of love and warmth for all who knew her.

Catalina was a product of the Christero War, where she was taught an unwavering faith in God. She was a woman of incredible faith, and her belief shaped the way she lived and loved those around her. Throughout her life, Catalina was an example of compassion, kindness and unconditional love. Her home was always open to those in need and her heart was a safe haven for family, friends and strangers alike. She touched the lives of so many through her selflessness and dedication, always prioritizing the well-being of others.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through challenges and victories alike. She often shared the message of hope and love, reminding us that with God all things are possible – “Con Dios Todo Sin Dios Nada.” Her legacy of love, faith and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Catalina is survived by her loving sons Felix Salazar and David Salazar (Jennifer); stepchildren John Salazar and Esther Harlow; and grandchildren Daniel Salazar, Jesus Salazar, Alejandro Salazar, Salvador Salazar, Noa Salazar and Lorenzo Salazar.

Catalina was preceded in death by her husband Tony, and joins her parents Felix Luna Hernandez and Maria Cabrera Vega; siblings Cande, Lalos, Rosita and Lola; daughter Paola Salazar; and stepchildren Anthony Salazar and Lydia Salazar.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 20, 2025 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Holladay. Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
