Charlotte B. Naranjo Turner, 77, of West Valley City, passed away Sept. 24, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born June 14, 1939, in Fruita, Colo., the daughter of the late Joe and Lucy Naranjo; the third of four siblings, Katherine Naranjo Sisneros, Jeanette Naranjo Jones and preceded in death by Severiano Naranjo.
She graduated from Carbon High School 1957; Weber State University in 1959 with an R.N. degree; and the University of Utah in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
On Aug. 9, 1963, she married Ronald E. Turner.
Charlotte received a scholarship from the United Mine Workers of America. Upon graduation, she was made head nurse of neurosurgery at LDS Hospital. After marriage, she worked at the Army Madigan General Hospital during her husband’s service in the Army. They returned to Salt Lake City, and she retired as the head nurse of orthopedics at LDS Hospital in 1994.
She joined the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, and held offices, including president. Upon Ron’s graduation from the University of Utah’s College of Pharmacy, she joined the Pharmacy Auxiliary Wives Association, in which she held offices, including president. She also served on the Impaired Nurses Board.
Charlotte was not only a compassionate nurse, she was a loving and caring mother. She was the catechism attendance secretary at Saints Peter and Paul Parish, where her four children received their Catholic Sacraments. She was a Scout leader, and her sons became Eagle Scouts. She was involved in her children’s activities and sports. She supported her grandchildren and celebrated their milestones. She was fondly called “the team grandmother.”
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Turner; four children and their spouses: Raquel Turner Dimock (Tim) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Craig Turner (Jaime) of Grantsville; Clint Turner of Paris, France; Rhonda Turner Bukovinsky (Rich) of Park City; grandchildren Remington and Tessa Dimock of South Jordan; Cole, Jaden, and Cierra Turner of Grantsville; and Rylee Bukovinsky of Park City; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 11800 South 300 East,
Draper.
If donation is preferred, the family requests it be made to the University of Utah College of Nursing, in memory of Charlotte B. Naranjo Turner.
