At the March 22 Chrism Mass, Bishop Oscar A. Solis blessed the holy oils that will be used during the year, and consecrated the holy Chrism. In addition, he accepted the renewal of promises from the diocesan priests, the religious women and men, and the laity. During his homily, he said the gathering was “a visible expression of our oneness as a faith community, to renew our commitment to God, and our commitment to our Church. This is a special moment of grace, as we all come together representing every face of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. … All of you here manifest the many gifts and talents that can help in building our local Church. Our lives, our faith, and our commitment to the mission of Christ give hope to our world. … The blessing of the holy oils is the sacramental symbol of the missionary character of the Church. It helps us to recognize and remember our identity and mission to carry out the sacred work of Christ in the world today. At this Chrism Mass we are called to renew our commitment as his disciples so we may remain faithful as visible witnesses of God’s presence in the world.”
