Christ the King Parish in Cedar City celebrated the feast of Christ the King on Nov. 20 by gathering all parishioners for one single weekend Mass. "We are going to have a very, very special Mass today because it is our parish feast day," said the pastor, Monsignor Robert Bussen, during the bilingual Mass that began with a procession into the church. Among the guests were Father José Fidel Barrera Cruz’s mother, sister and nephew from El Salvador, and some 4th Degree Knights from Saint George. Fr. Barrera Cruz is parochial vicar at the parish, which normally celebrates a vigil Mass on Saturday, one in English and one in Spanish on Sunday as well as one for the college students at the Southern Utah University Newman Center. "We never have a time when we can just be together," Msgr. Bussen said, explaining why he chose to have the one Mass for the feast day, which also celebrated the parish’s eighth anniversary in its new church. The Mass was the first he concelebrated with Fr. Barrera Cruz, who arrived in September. Shown is the Christ statue in the church’s gathering space reflected in the door to the nave. See additional photos on Facebook. IC photo/Marie Mischel
