Christmas Message from Bishop Solis + Enlarge
By The Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis
Bishop of Salt Lake City

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In the Gospel of Luke (2:10-11) it is written: “The angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.’”
God fulfilled his promise in the arrival of Jesus our Savior, who was born in a lowly stable to a sinful and broken humanity. Jesus is the embodiment of the Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” He is the manifestation of the infinite love of God and the redeeming grace to the world, which longs for healing, reconciliation and peace amid war, polarization and suffering especially among our poor, vulnerable and marginalized brothers and sisters.
Christmas reminds us that we have a God who cares, loves, saves us and will never abandon us. Jesus is God’s precious gift to us, a light that shines in the darkest time in our world that is brightened by his message of hope, joy and peace.
This year we have an added blessing. On Christmas Eve, Pope Francis will inaugurate the Jubilee Year 2025 with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” He said a jubilee is a time of grace, and he exhorts us during these challenging times to put our trust and hope in God, who is ever faithful and does not disappoint.
As we continue our faith journey, I wish you and your loved ones the blessings of joy and peace that Christ brings. Have a grace-filled and Merry Christmas!
