Students from kindergarten through grade three gather around Ada Chukwukeme, a native of Nigeria, while she reads from her children’s book, "Why Turtles have Patchy Shells" at St. Francis Xavier Regional School’s Family Reading Night Nov. 15. Parents and students were encouraged to share their favorite children’s books. Proceeds from the sales of her book go to support Triumph International School, located in the Plateau State of Nigeria. Triumph International School provides classes for children in day care, pre-school, and kindergarten. Their goal is to raise funds to build an entire elementary school. At right, second-grader Sophie Robertson holds her three-year-old sister, Katie, so Katie can see the pictures in the book. After the reading the children made turtles like the one on the floor at left.
