Deacon Joseph A. Regan, KofC, KHS, dies Oct 15

ST. GEORGE — Rev. Deacon Sir Joseph Andrew Regan, KHS, died Sunday, Oct. 15.

Deacon Joe died peacefully at his home in St. George, ending a three-year year courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.

We offer praise and thanksgiving to God for the gift of this wonderful, loving, kind peaceful man.

Deacon Joe was born in Lilly, Penn. Dec. 13, 1934. He was the eldest of four brothers and two sisters. After graduating from high school in 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country in Germany with the 101st Calvary.

After returning home he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Cuyahoga Community College and Kent State University.

He became a General Agent for the Knights of Columbus Life Insurance Company. He married Pat June 23, 1979. They celebrated their 27th anniversary this past June.

Deacon Joe and Pat retired to St. George in 1994. They were very active in St. George Parish, and he pursued his dream of becoming a deacon. He was ordained to the Order of Deacon Nov. 19, 2000. He was always aware of God’s presence in himself and others. He was always willing to help those around him grow, develop, and find meaning in their lives.

Deacon Joe served one full year at St. Christopher Parish, Kanab, as minister and deacon. He was also called to serve in the Youth Crisis Centers in St. George.

He served his church community by presiding at baptisms, marriages, and funerals. Deacon Joe became a charter member of Bishop Scanlan Assembly of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

The highest of honors in Joe’s life and Pat’s occurred Oct. 24, 2004, when they were accepted and invested into the equestrian order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem in the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, the noblest Equestrian Order instituted in ancient times to guard and honor the Sepulcher of our divine Savior in Jerusalem.

Deacon Joe is survived by his wife Pat, St. George; their children: Joseph (Paula), Frazier Park, Calif., Edward (Donna), Frazier Park, Michael (Suzanne), Frazier Park, Michelle Kacperski (John), Santa Clarita, Calif. and, Tim (Leslie), Denver; and 13 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Cora, and brother Paul.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. George Catholic Church Wed., October 18, 2006, at 11 am. Celebrent will be Monsignor Robert J. Bussen.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that charitable donations be made to the City of Hope National Medical Center for Cancer research. 1500 East Duarte Rd., Duarte, Calif. 91010.
