Denim Kent Simkins, age 50, left us far too early, but true to form, even his exit left us laughing, loving harder and craving one more hug. Born in Holladay, Denim was a family guy, car guy, motivated, busy and a master at turning any team into a family.
A husband and father, there was no one better. Denim was devoted to his wife Carma, and together they built a life filled with love and unwavering partnership. Their bond was the steady foundation of their family. A proud “girl dad” to Ellie and Gabbi, Denim was present at every game, event and every breakdown at the kitchen counter while finishing math homework. He was silly, supportive, loud when needed, quiet when it mattered and the heart of the operation.
He loved boating with his family, golfing with his boys and tailgating in the U van with his Utah family. He loved being the guy you could depend on to pack it, grill it, drive it, and make it all feel like a party. He was the dad of every group; cooler loaded and jokes ready.
Being a fixed operations director for over 30 years, he didn’t just lead teams, he built little communities that cared about each other and did the right thing for the right reason. He had this rare gift of making you feel like what you had to say mattered.
Denim was a man of deep faith, steady loyalty and unstoppable joy. He lived big, laughed often, and gave people a reason to believe they were important. His resume wasn’t a list of job titles but was written in how he treated people, and it speaks for itself. He leaves behind his beloved family, a legacy of kindness. He was everything good.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on May 13, 2025 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Draper. Interment at Riverton City Cemetery, Riverton.
