Donald Houston Durrant, a devoted husband, loving father, skilled baker, steadfast Catholic and avid collector, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on January 30, 1939 to Wayne E. Durrant Sr. and Phoebe Houston Durrant, Donald was raised with strong values of hard work, family and service. He proudly served in the Air National Guard and later pursued his passion for baking, graduating from the American Institute of Baking. Throughout his career, he owned and operated several successful bakeries, leaving behind not only recipes but also cherished memories and a legacy of dedication and craftsmanship.
On October 12, 1963, Donald married the love of his life, Kay Lepore Durrant. Together, they built a life centered on family and enduring love.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved sons, Antonio Durrant and James Durrant.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay; his children Monica McDonnell (Scott), William Durrant, Mary Frances Durrant and Dorothy Anne Byes; his sister Phoebe Lynne Durrant; and his brother Wayne E. Durrant Jr. (Deween). He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Kaytlin Sloane, Chandler and Katie, extended family and many friends.
Donald’s kindness, quiet strength and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated aides who cared for Donald: Pita, Janet, Martha, Sasha, and Claudia over the years – Maile, Shauntel, Barbara and Teara. Your commitment and compassion have meant so much. We also offer special thanks to all the Meals on Wheels drivers for their support and service.
A celebration of life was held June 17 at Starks Funeral Parlor.
