August 3, 1946 ~ November 3, 2024

Born August 3, 1946, in Ripley, Mississippi to Mary Carter Barber and William Ed Barber; successful business man, racquetball champion and father/husband/brother Eddie Carter Barber, age 78, of Holladay, passed away November 3, 2024 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Cockrell Barber; his two sons, Eddie Jr (Ali) and Trey (Cindy); and his amazing grandsons whom he loved very much, Riley Jay, Krew Michael, Carter Callahan and twin brother Nicholas Jeffrey.

He was the oldest son of four siblings, survived by his sister, Linda Barber Morgan. Eddie was a loving son as he took care of his mother from the age of 14 to the day of her passing. Eddie worked his way up the executive ladder to vice president for Malone and Hyde in Memphis, and in 1982 transferred to Utah and continued as vice president for UDISCO. Afterward, Eddie opened his own packaging and shipping franchises for years before retiring to enjoy his love of racquetball and spend time with family. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, softball, hiking and camping. Eddie was also a decorated racquetball champion alongside good friend and partner Eddy Connor.

Eddie was fierce in his convictions. Always there for his family in a crisis, he used logic over emotion and believed in the value of hard work. Eddie was plagued with health issues the latter part of his life and required around-the-clock attention by his loving and patient wife before moving to The Ridge at Cottonwood, where he received excellent care.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on November 8, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holladay. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 275 U St., Salt Lake City.
