January 4, 1929 ~ March 16, 2022
Eddie Eugene Springer passed away peacefully at his home on March 16, 2022. Born January 4, 1929, to LeRoy Springer and Juanita Duran Springer in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Upon Juanita’s death, LeRoy married Esther and their combined family totaled 10 children: Lee, Eddie, Jayne, Janet, Judy, Juanita, David, Jackie, Scheril and Carolyn.
Eddie joined the United States Navy at the early age of 15, serving in World War II on the USS Nevada for three years with an honorable discharge. He later became a professional long-haul truck driver, retiring from Stone Container at the age of 72.
Eddie married Beverly Tolman in 1948. They had three children, Max, Lorraine and Marty. He then married Marian Atkinson. They had two children, Mark and Lori. He later married Josephine (Jo) Pacheco in 1990. Jo was the love of his life, with whom he would spend the rest of his days. The love and commitment they showed one another was unbreakable and unconditional. He was so loved by Jo’s kids, Rick, Vera, Ken and Monica – he was truly a “Dad” to them.
Eddie was a true man of integrity, a man of service and a man of great faith in God. He began service in the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis Xavier Parish in 2003 and was honored as the 2012-2013 “Knight of the Year.” His volunteer service in the Church included food service, ushering, collection of offerings and bereavement services. He was well respected and loved by all in his Church and was always making new friends.
Family and friends will remember him for his smile and jokes that he would share with anyone who would listen (and laugh.) He was kind, intelligent and giving, and he made everyone feel welcome and accepted as one of “his friends.” Eddie will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Jo; half-sisters and half-brother; sons Max (Judy) Springer, Marty (Kris) Springer; Mark (Kim) Springer, Lori (Kip) Day; stepchildren Rick Owen, Vera (Randy) Archuleta, step daughter-in-law (Brenda) Owen, Monica (TK) Owen. Their combined families gave them numerous beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents; half-sisters Jackie, Scheril and Carolyn; daughter Lorraine and stepson Ken; grandsons Mathew, David and Jesse.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 21 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Interment followed at Mt. View Memorial Estates, Cottonwood Heights.
