MIDVALE — Edilea Lopez Romero, 72, died March 7, 2011. She was a member of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish.

Romero was born March 5, 1939, in Las Trampas, N.M., to Ben Lopez and Elizada Cruz Lopez. She married the love of her life, Rudy Romero, on Feb. 11, 1961. Edilea was the consummate caregiver. This trait was apparent from a young age when she helped raise her siblings and continued on throughout her life with her own children and grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for the less fortunate and took every opportunity to help others.

She ran the St. Therese Parish thrift store for more than 17 years, helping clothe, feed and provide furnishings to those in need. She was awarded "Woman of the Year" by St. Therese Parish, an award of which she was very proud.

Even in her later years as her health declined she never lost her fighting spirit, her love of floral gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Rudy Romero; children Greg (Lori), Corinne (Junior) Medina, Renee (Tom) Smith and Sandra (Steve) Villarreal; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Genevieve, Bernice, Lucy and Edna; brothers Eddie, Ben, Bob and Mike.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.
