Edward was born on January 7, 1932, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to loving parents Mary Agnes Murnane and Edward A. Stevens. He was brought up in Manasquan, New Jersey. Edward graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1949 and attended Providence College in 1950. After completing his first year he was federalized and sent to Japan. He returned to college in 1953, graduated in 1955.

In 1950, after his father lost his drug store due to the economy, Edward volunteered for the National Guard to get health insurance for his parents. Upon graduating college in 1955 he was designated as the Distinguished Military Student and was appointed second lieutenant to the regular Army. While Edward respected all the medals on his chest, he was most proud of his Airborne Parachute Wings and his CIB Sharpshooter Badge. Edward served time in Japan, Korea, Europe, Germany. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was then stationed in Panama for three years. Edward also served as the ROTC instructor at Rhode Island University for four years.

He retired from the Armed Forces after 28 years of service on November 30, 1977, and started working for Pinkerton within one week. He served as the manager of the Trenton, New Jersey, and New York City office of Pinkerton. He provided security for five or six Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades. He also provided security for the 1980 Winter Olympics. After retiring from Pinkerton, he was bored and went to work part-time for Hertz as a driver.

In 1955 Edward married Maury Fickinger. Maury and Edward spent almost 70 years of marriage together. They had marvelous experiences even though they moved 19 times. For seven years they lived in Europe and were able to travel everywhere his high security would allow them to. Edward was the father to four wonderful children: Kathleen, Michael, Alice and Jennifer. He was a grandfather and great-grandfather.

Edward is survived by his wife Maury and their four children. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Draper.
