Elizabeth Baker Bloomer

November 27, 1930 ~ July 22, 2023

On July 22 in her 93rd year, Elizabeth Baker Bloomer passed away peacefully in her sleep. Her children were able to fly in from around the country and globe to be with her before she died.

Elizabeth was born November 27, 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee to William John and Mary Prince Baker. Elizabeth grew up in several locales, including New York State. She attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana before transferring to Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. In 1957, she married Herbert Allan Bloomer, M.D. in Arlington, Virginia.

The couple relocated to Texas, where Allan served his commitment to the United States Air Force, before settling in Holladay, Utah. There, they purchased a beautiful four-acre property where they reared their young family: (Fr.) Matthew, Elizabeth (Phelan), Andrew and Fayth. Another son, Peter Martin, preceded her in death.

Elizabeth was a devout Roman Catholic who raised her family in the faith and was frequently in contact with the teachers and administrators of her kids’ schools to make sure that they were receiving a top-notch education. Elizabeth always encouraged her children to achieve academically, artistically and athletically, and supported their various endeavors, including countless hockey trips with her sons’ travel teams and attending all manner of plays, concerts and performances. A tireless mother and wonderful Nana, she was never at a loss for words of advice. We will all miss her dynamic and humorous personality.

Elizabeth leaves behind her loving husband of 65 ½ years, Allan; her four living children; son-in-law Christopher Phelan; daughter-in-law Elizabeth A.S. Bloomer and 10 grandchildren: Maire, Celia, Madeleine, Joseph and Lucy Phelan; Anne, John, Paul, Stephen and Beata Bloomer. The family would like to thank the Sisters of the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for their unceasing prayers and spiritual support for Elizabeth and the Bloomer family. The family would also like to thank the assisted living staff at Sunrise and the nurses at Inspiration Hospice for providing such excellent care for Elizabeth in her final weeks and months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated August 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Interment at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery immediately following. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.
