PHOENIX, Ariz. — Elizabeth O. "Pat" Stinson, 89, died May 25. Stinson was born Dec. 18, 1918, to Walter Lee O’Malley and Elizabeth Frances Kyle O’Malley. She was raised in Salt Lake City. She attended St. Mary of the Wasatch, and graduated in 1936. She married Orville R. "Brook" Stinson May 26, 1943, in Pendleton, Ore. They raised their family in Boise, Idaho, and Phoenix, Ariz., where she lived for more than 50 years. She was a classical violinist, and performed with the Salt Lake City and Boise Civic Symphonies. Her love of reading and her work with her own children and grandchildren helped her recognize the need for patient teaching of people with dyslexia. In 1974, at age 56, she graduated with honors from Arizona State University. She obtained her teaching certificate from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. She taught at St. Louis the King for six years, and St. Theresa for nine years. She lived her deep religious convictions throughout her life, serving as a volunteer at Kino Institute, the Glendale Public Library, and as a Eucharistic Minister to the infirm for St. Raphael Parish. After retiring, she traveled throughout the United States and beyond visiting children and grandchildren. Her passion for reading sustained her in recent years. She is survived by her son, Frank Stinson of Tempe, Ariz., daughters, Elizabeth Stinson of Forrestville, Calif., Barbara Stinson (Jack) Lee of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joan (Joe) Myzskowski of Stoughton, Wisc., Kelly Stinson (Jeffrey) Mullens of Boise, Idaho; son-in-law Wayne (Judy) Moss of Globe, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Phoenix, Ariz.
