Emma Jeanne Howland, 88, died November 7, 2024. Emma Jeanne was born on July 1, 1936, to Sigurdur (Blanche) Milner and Melvin Darrel (Bud) Starley in Bingham, Utah.
She grew up in Bingham Canyon. She married Lawrence (Larry) W. Howland in 1955. They moved to Lark, Utah, where they raised their six children. Emma Jeanne and her family relocated to West Jordan when the town of Lark closed.
She attended St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Midvale, where she was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s group, and taught catechism. She was honored at the 83rd Diocese Council of Catholic Women Convention at the Sheraton City Center from April 19 through May 1, 2011, for her service to the church.
Emma Jeanne is survived by her children Laura (Joseph) Vreden, Nannette (Larry) Christensen, Debra (David) Brown, Michael (Terri) Howland, Melinda (Ken) Smith and Darrel (Jena) Howland; her sister Francis Bridges; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (Larry); granddaughter Mary Thompson; and grandson Albert Munsell.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 7832 Allen St., Midvale, on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11 a.m., followed by graveside service at the Bingham Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Lions Club in Copperton.
