Erma K. Sponga Yengich
February 25, 1925 ~ April 10, 2020
Erma K. Sponga Yengich died on Good Friday, April 10, 2020. Erma was born to Bartolo and Annetta Sponga on February 25, 1925, the third child of parents who emigrated to the upper reaches of Bingham Canyon from the beautiful mountain vistas of the Dolomite Mountains. Erma was a devout Catholic and a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.
Erma is survived by her children Kay (Jim) Jordan, Ron (Kay) Yengich, Linda (Randy) May and daughter-in-law Karen Yengich; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nick Yengich; her two sisters, Carmela Cameron and Gigita Louise Perelle; her son, Nick; and her granddaughter, Michelle.
Erma was honored as Woman of the Year by Blessed Sacrament Parish a few years ago, a reward which thrilled her in ways that were hard for her to express. Her rosary was a constant companion and rested next to her favorite chair with prayer cards and other devotions and Holy Cards. She will be missed by her entire family, all her friends and members of her parish.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on April 16, 2020 where Father Sam Dinsdale and her granddaughter Heather May offered beautiful eulogies. A memorial Mass and celebration of Erma’s life will be held when we are able to return to a degree of normalcy after the pandemic.
Erma’s wish would be for all to be safe, and as a member of the Greatest Generation, she would expect each of us to look out for not only the members of our family, but for all those that are suffering. In her memory, plant red geraniums, vote, give food to the hungry and count your blessings.
