Eusebia "Susie" Lopez

MIDVALE — Eusebia Lopez, 94, died Jan. 7, 2011. She was a member of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish.

Lopez was born Dec. 16, 1916, to Jose de Jesus Jauregui and Maria Juana Gutierrez in Valle de Guadalupe Jalisco, Mexico. She married Trinidad H. Lopez in 1935. The family came to the United States in 1952 to settle in Lark, Utah. In 1957, they moved to Midvale. She worked at the Tampico Restaurant in Salt Lake City as the head cook for 17 years. People came from miles around to enjoy her famous Mexican style food. Singer Nat King Cole and actor/director Robert Redford were her regular customers. She later worked at and retired from National Semi-Conductor. Her first husband died in 1991, and Manuel Garcia became her friend and companion.

She would open her kitchen to family and friends every Sunday. She was a member of St. Therese choir for many years and every Christmas after midnight Mass they were invited to her home for homemade tamales, menudo and chili verde.

She is survived by her children Luis (Nadine) Lopez, Ofelia (Daniel) Wayne, Evelia (Antonio) Amador, Maria (John) Price, David Lopez and Irene (Jim) Akers; 26 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Victor and Carlos Jauregui; and sisters Esther Alvardo and Justina Reyes.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. Interment was in Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
