SALT LAKE CITY — Ferris L. Stokes, 82, died at his home May 10. Stokes was born March 14, into a farming family with five brothers and one sister in Bothwell, Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he met Evelyn M. Stokes in New Jersey. They were married Sept. 1, 1946, and moved to Bothwell. They later moved to Riverton where they worked hard raising a family of five and running a large farm. They later moved to Bennion, Murray, and Midvale. Stokes learned a strong work ethic at an early age and maintained it throughout his life. He worked at Kennecott Copper Corp. for 29 years, while also managing his farm. He loved growing crops and was well known for his sweet corn and his large pumpkin patch. He was an avid basketball fan. Later in life, he survived many heart attacks and heart surgeries. His will to survive, his hard work ethic, and his wife’s care extended his life 40 years. He is survived by his children, Richard, Russel (Cindy) of Wisconsin, Marie Shipman, Jeffrey (Judi), and Ferron (Sandra); 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Delon Stokes and Stanley Stokes of Tremonton. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Vincent Catholic Church. Interment was in Mt. View Memorial Estates.
