In preparation of the 10th World Meeting of Families, which will be celebrated June 22-26, the Intermountain Catholic has been running stories on families. For this week, we asked students at each Utah Catholic School the question “How does your family show its love to you?” Following are the answers from the schools that responded.
“Despite my family being divorced, they show me so much love. They show their love by their own actions, behavior and attitude. My mom shows her love by caring about my wellbeing, providing me with clothing, food and shelter as well as buying me other wants. She always makes sure that I’m happy, healthy and strong. My dad raised me, single-handed, taught me how to study and always be responsible, to be strong-minded and have the will to never give up.” – Chantelle Sakalauskas, 8th grade, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School
“My family shows its love to me by supporting me in everything I do, like coming to my basketball games. Their support shows that they are invested in my life.” – Jack Raup, 11th grade, Juan Diego Catholic High School
“We show our love to one another by praying together every night, saying what we’re thankful for from that day, and singing ‘Salve Regina.’ When there is a spider in the house, my sister Eva and I really want it to live, so instead of squishing it, Dad takes the spider out into the grass and lets it go there. We always play games with Zoe, my baby sister. We make up songs to sing to her, we bounce with her, and we sing ‘Baby Beluga’ to her when she’s angry. During the pandemic, Mom gave music lessons to us when we couldn’t see our teachers, and Eva and I wrote stories together.” – Joshua Peterson, 6th grade, The Madeleine Choir School
“My parents show their love through the routine that we always keep at night; I get to read with them for a while before my curfew. I like to spend time with my family. They love me by having family game nights, by not getting that mad at me when I follow through with ill-thought decisions, and by paying for my saxophone lessons, which I enjoy a lot.” – Leo, 5th grade, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School
“My mom gives me advice that not even the wise King Solomon would give. My dad makes me smile. My siblings – well, they stand up for me even if it means they’ll get embarrassed in front of their friends. I am proud to be a part of my family and I hope my family can see how much I love them, because I can clearly see how much they love me.” – Alexander Herrera, 7th grade, St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School
“They take care of me and spend time with me. Sometimes they give me things I ask for when I am good but I usually have to earn them by watching my baby brother Ezeriah.”
“My parents are good to me and give me a few bucks when I get a good report card or do some chores around the house. They provide for all of us and treat us to vacations and fun things when they can. I appreciate all they do for us and love them very much.” – Elias Chandler, 1st grade and Marcellas Chandler, 6th grade, St. Marguerite Catholic School
“My family shows their love for me in many ways, including physically being there for me in all of the sports events that I have participated in throughout high school. They also support me whenever I want to try anything new, and trust that eventually I will find something that I want to pursue as a career.” – Mitchell Bledsoe, 12th grade, Judge Memorial Catholic High School
“My family shows their love for me in lots of ways: They take care of me, they spend time with me playing the games I love, they always make me feel better if I’m sad and get excited with me when I’m happy. Another way my family shows their love is we always have big family get-togethers with my grandma and grandpa and all my aunts and uncles and cousins. All of us are very supportive and we always cheer each other on and get excited for each other when something new and fun happens in our life.” – Conner Woods, 6th grade, t. John the Baptist Catholic Middle School
“My family shows me love by helping me with things that are hard for me.” – Julia Schelble, 2nd grade, J.E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School
“My parents support everything I do. They attend all my sporting events and school activities and are actively involved in my life.” – Ciera Aguirre, 12th grade, St. Joseph Catholic High School
“I know my family loves me because they say they are very thankful for us (their kids) all the time. They take care of us and give us really good food because my mom is a good cook. I know my sister loves me because she helps me on the computer and she helps my brother David with his learning games. My family is very thoughtful. They are always trying to do nice things for us, like my parents worked really hard to find the right presents for Christmas and lots of other times. My parents made a way for us to go to this school. My family is really loving and kind to everybody. They will help anybody who needs it. I think that shows love too.” – Samuelle Gran, 4th grade, David Gran, 2nd grade, and Gabriella Gran, kindergarten, St. Olaf Catholic School
“My family loves me like how Jesus shows his love to me. Even when my parents are somewhere and some people don’t like me, I will always feel loved by Jesus and my parents because they are truly a blessing. I thank God every day for my parents.” – Achwil Yak, 5th grade, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School
“My family shows love to me by helping me be the best version of me and caring for me. They also get me what I need and wash clothes and dishes. My family helps me when I need help.” – Anders DeMuri, 3rd grade, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School
“My family shows me love by guiding me into the right direction and telling me right from wrong. They also show me affection with their kind words and actions. With their words and actions, it helps me feel better about myself and the things I do.” – Tristan Willans, 8th grade, Kearns-St. Ann Catholic School
