SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Francis "Frank" Xavier Kearns died Dec. 1 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., from complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome. Between 1983 and 1990, he was a founding member and executive vice president of business operations at ARUP Laboratories of Salt Lake City. He held an MS in medical technology from California State University and an MBA from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He was a graduate of the executive management programs from the Stanford University Business School and the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Business in California. Kearns and his wife, Patricia, moved from the West to Syracuse in the spring of 2001. He served as chief executive officer of Laboratory Alliance of Central New York, LLC. He was a devoted family man, and he loved to fish, and looked forward to trips with family, friends, and grandchildren. He was involved in fund raising for the Ronald McDonald House, and other fund raisers and associations. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Theresa Steadman, Denise (Larry) Tucker, both of Salt Lake City, Cheryl (Richard) Lovelace, Maryland; grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, Skylar, Cole, Alexis, Kade, and Adriana; sisters, Susanna and Virginia; brothers, Vincent and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
