SANDY — Girl Scout Troop 1135, from Blessed Sacrament School, collected diapers, layette items, and hand-tied fleece blankets to donate to Catholic Community Services (CCS) for their Refugee Resettlement Program. They delivered the items April 28. The troop organized a "Diaper Drive," to collect baby items to assist CCS, and at the same time earn their Girl Scout Community Service badge. CCS awarded the troop with a Certificate of Appreciation. Suzanne DeVoe, CCS public relations and marketing director, said, "What is most impressive about this project, is how enthusiastic these young girls are to help those in need. This proves to me our world is not as sad as it sometimes seems to be. It is people like these young girls who allow the work at CCS to continue." Hafsa Abdikadir, who works with CCS Refugee Resettlement families, said they do not have enough diapers for the young families with babies, and often have to solicit supplies from the community. "This will help us a lot because these are the major items we need," said Abdikadir. "We also are in need pots and pans, twin beds, and cribs."
