SANDY — Harold "Hal" Wiser Lufkin, 87, died Oct. 8. Lufkin was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Shelley, Idaho, to George Allen and Venus Wiser Lufkin. He married Barbara Alta Postal June 21, 1952, in Chicago, Ill. He attended Shelley High School and Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a control tower operator during World War II. After the war, he worked for 32 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. He started as an assistant controller and worked his way up to a manager of the Air Traffic Control Center in Great Falls, Mont. In 1976, he transferred to the Salt Lake Air Traffic Control Center, and was a military liaison officer. He retired two years later. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, gardening, making Christmas ornaments, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, David, Stephen, and Philip (Lisa); grandchildren, Paul and Rebecca; siblings, Alice Walker, Moses Lake, Wash., Lorraine Lewis, Seattle, Wash., Dick (Bonnie Jo) Lufkin, Hurricane, Mildred (Morris) Telford, Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Mountain View Mortuary.
