Helen Shool Anton

MURRAY — Helen Shool "Siti" Anton, 79, died Oct. 7. She was a member of St. Jude Maronite Rite Parish, Murray.

Anton was born Sept. 18, 1927, to Bolos and Martha Shool. She married John L. Anton June 7, 1952. She and John raised their family with a strong Lebanese tradition and with a focus on their Maronite Rite Catholic faith. Anton was always taking care of others, whether it was her family, friends, neighbors, members of her church, or community. She donated endless hours to her parish. She was a founding member of a ladies poker group which began in 1955. She also enjoyed water aerobics, preparing Lebanese foods, and all the traditions.

She and her husband formed a band to play Arabic music at weddings, festivals, and many community affairs. They received the Governor’s Folk Art Award in 1996 for their contribution to the preservation of folk music in the community. They played at the Living Traditions Festival for 21 years. Anton had a beautiful voice. Her passing will leave a tremendous void in many lives.

Anton is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; four children Mary Jo, John and Tammy, Theresa and Dave, Jim and Tammy; grandchildren, Alexandra, Ed, Rachel, Jennifer, Phillip, Anna, Amber, Bob, and Chelsie and Kameron; brother, Joseph J. Shool; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Jude Maronite Rite Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
