Deacon John Kranz
COPPERTON — Immaculate Conception Parish marked a historic milestone during the first week of December as it commemorated the 75th anniversary of its church building during a special Mass that celebrated the Second Sunday of Advent as well as the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The parish, established in 1890, has been a cornerstone of faith and fellowship for the Copperton community and beyond.
Bishop Oscar A. Solis presided over the Eucharistic celebration. Concelebrating was Father Southan Star Alban, temporary parochial vicar of the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Deacon Paul Graham assisted. Deacon John Kranz served as master of ceremonies.
During his homily, Bishop Solis reflected on the Gospel for the Second Sunday of Advent, emphasizing the call to prepare the way of the Lord and to live as missionary disciples in the community. He challenged the faithful to embrace their baptismal mission to share the love of Christ, saying, “Our call as Catholics is not simply to celebrate our faith within these walls but to bring hope, love and joy to those around us.”
In a touching moment, Bishop Solis asked the congregation how many parishioners had been part of Immaculate Conception since the building was constructed 75 years ago. As the well-attended Mass grew silent in anticipation, one hand was raised. Larry Arritola, a member of the parish since its earliest days, stood as a living testament to the enduring legacy of the church community. The congregation erupted in applause, honoring his journey of faith and dedication.
The sanctuary, decorated for Advent, and the joyful music provided by the parish choir contributed to the spiritual ambiance of the celebration, which honored the faith community's years of service, worship and growth.
Following the Mass, a reception in the parish hall offered parishioners and guests the opportunity to reminisce about the parish’s rich history, renew friendships, and share stories of the ways the parish has been a source of hope and support in their lives.
