The tombstones for Dominican Father Bede Wilks and Dominican Father Thomas More (James) McGreevy, were delivered to the Western Dominican Province cemetery in Benicia, Calif. on the same day, March 10. They will be installed when weather permits. Fathers Wilks and McGreevy were the first co-pastors of the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s Saint Catherine of Siena/Newman Center, across the street from the University of Utah. The center was founded in 1981. Fr. Wilks died Nov. 25, 2011; Fr. McGreevy on Feb. 3, 2012. The homily for Fr. Wilks ended with some words that Dominican Father Leo Thomas preached at Fr. Wilks’ first Mass: "The priest comes facing his ministry with a history. He looks back on this history wondering what God has in mind. He does not know, he will not know, not clearly; it is a mystery; but he knows this: that if Christ’s work is to be done it will be done by the influence of this man who has his own history… This history has made him what he is. Christ chose him, Christ will use this… Christ has chosen him out to do some work that no one else could do. This will go on. It will go on until the appointed time, until all has been accomplished; until the will of the Father in heaven has been fulfilled this will go on, until all is summed up in Christ, until all are at one, each with another, and all with God."
