February 16, 1932 ~ August 14, 2023

Jacquelin Carter Griffin passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2023 at the age of 91.  She was born February 16, 1932 to June Fjeld and Fred Clinger Carter in Lehi, Utah. She graduated from American Fork High School. She married Glen Werner in 1950 and to that union were born three children: Carl, Sharon and Scott. They later divorced. She was blessed by her mother and kind stepfather Rulon Nicholes as she raised her young children. Jackie met Richard K. Griffin while working for UDOT and courted for six years. Their first date was a fishing trip to Strawberry Reservoir with all the children. Richard and Jackie married on August 22, 1968, moved to Cedar City and had two additional children, Catherine and Teresa. Together, Jackie and Richard nurtured their five children and led them on many adventures. They treasured time spent with their grandson Bryce in their home in his early years. Jackie considered each of her family members a cherished gift.

Jackie graduated from Southern Utah State College with a degree in English in 1982. She was a skilled writer who shared her love and ideas through letters, poetry and essays. She even wrote several children’s books, telling tales of the animals that came to visit their forested home. Jackie freely gave service to others, delivering garden produce to neighbors, hostessing at the Shakespearean Festival, judging poetry contests and sharing her musical talents. She could always be found singing, humming or leading a song that was playing in her mind. She was a valiant follower of Jesus Christ, with an exemplary testimony of our Savior.

Survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years Richard K. Griffin, children Scott (Vicki) Werner of Washington, Utah; Catherine (Roger) Hill of Washington, Utah; and Teresa Griffin (Ron) of Cedar City, Utah; and a loving covey of grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Annette Lambson of Yuma, California; and her brother Dan Carter of Seattle, Washington. She was preceded in death by her son Carl, daughter Sharon and great-grandchild Knox Werner.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on August 26 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment followed at the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Many thanks to Dr. Todd Garrett for his exceptional care.
