SALT LAKE CITY - James Spiro Ipiotis, 54, died Jan. 1, 2010.
Ipiotis was born in 1955 to Ted and Jo Apodaca Ipiotis. He never uttered a critical word about another and loved chocolate, the outdoors, and Zozobra. He was active in the Kiwanis Club for more than 25 years. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1974 and served with the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1976. He graduated from Texas State Technical Institute in 1984 as a draftsman. He moved to Salt Lake City 12 years ago. He fell in love with the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and traveled to Bejing for the 2008 Games. He was proud of his Greek and Hispanic heritage.
He is survived by his mother, Jo Ipiotis; sisters Jackie A. Morales, Joanna Ipiotis Romero (Ron), Dianna Ipiotis Jones (Del); brother, Gary Ipiotis; sisters, Sophie Pacheco, Marcie Abeyta (Joseph); brother, Chris Ipiotis (Molly); best friend, Maria West; and extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Anne Catholic Church. Burial was in Santa Fe National Cemetery.
