As the defending 2A girls soccer state champions, the Saint Joseph Jayhawks fought hard to maintain their title this year, but the Waterford Ravens proved to be their nemesis both in the regular season and in the championship game. Earlier in the season, Waterford beat Saint Joseph twice, 4-2 and 1-0. During the Oct. 23 state championship game at Rio Tinto Stadium, the two rivals faced off once more. For the Jayhawks, the results were the same: a 3-1 loss.
