MIDVALE — Jean H. Beck, 82, died April 23, after a six-month battle with cancer. Beck was born April 12, 1925, to Vivian V. and Bernard J. Heffernan in New York, N.Y. She met William J. Beck when his mother introduced them, after he returned as a second lieutenant from three years in Europe during World War II. They were married May 14, 1946, in New York. She and her husband moved all over the United States and throughout the world for 29 years while he was an army officer. There were many times she would have to pack up the children and move while her husband was stationed in places such as Vietnam or Saudi Arabia. After her husband retired from the Army, they moved to Florida. When her husband died in 1983, she remained in Florida until 2001, when she moved to Salt Lake City following the death of one of her daughters. Beck was always calm in the face of adversity with an inner strength, a sense of purpose, and a good sense of humor. She is survived by her daughter, Chris; son-in-law, Mark; sister-in-law, Marion; and two nieces, Jean Ann Picon and Laura Hluck. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. She was buried next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D. C.
