EAST CARBON — Joe D. Martinez, 87, passed away Jan. 24, 2012.

Martinez was born June 18, 1924 in Edith, Colo. to Jose Delores and Virginia Chavez Martinez. He married Cordie Baca, Dec. 3, 1942 in Durango, Colo. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, but the mountains were his real sanctuary.

Martinez is survived by two sons, Dr. Paul (Cathy) Martinez, and Marc Martinez; two sisters, Teresa Romero and Josie Gallegos; brother Leo Martinez; and eight grandchildren.

Martinez was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, infant son, daughter Kaye L. Martinez and daughter Judy Reavis; and brother Joe Martinez.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
