SALT LAKE CITY — John L. Martinez Jr., 68, passed away Feb. 11 2012 from a short bout with cancer.

Martinez was born in Monte Vista Colo. on July 3, 1943 to Juan Lorenzo Martinez and Leontina Lujan. He married Elsie Johnson on Sept. 23, 1960. He worked as a senior supplier quality engineer for E-Systems, Raytheon and retired from MOOG Aircraft. He was recognized in his career field with numerous awards and service recognitions from major universities throughout the nation. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

Martinez was preceded in death by grandson Christopher Martinez, and his parents.

Martinez is survived by his four children, Angela Torres (Jim), Suzanne Martinez (Ted), Valerie Leon (Michael), and John Martinez III. (Kathleen); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister, Eva Sapp (Eddie Pacheco).

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
