December 3, 1933 ~ August 22, 2021

José Carrillo, age 87, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021, in his own home.

He was born in Moreno, New Mexico on December 3, 1933, to Rafael and Pablita Carrillo; he was the eldest of 12 children. At only 14 years old he quit school and began working in the coal mines with his father to help support their family. Then when his family moved to Utah Country he began work as a welder. When he was 30, he had an accident at work that ended in 50 percent of his body being burned. He healed and went right back to work until his retirement in 1999. He spent his retirement years with his sister Ruben Carrillo and two brothers, Rafael and William (deceased) Carrillo, until his passing.

Jose was a devout Catholic and attended mass weekly at Saint Frances of Assisi in Orem. He was a member of the Moose lodge for many years; he loved to be sociable with others. When he wasn’t at the lodge, he was camping and fishing with his family, the three things he loved most.

Jose never married or had any children of his own, though he loved and cared for his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by five siblings, Pilar Carrillo, Ruben Carrillo, Rafael Carrillo, Lupe Cambray and Cloroveo (Charla) Carrillo.

A funeral Mass was celebrated August 30 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
