SALT LAKE CITY — Joseph A. Maurice passed away May 6, 2011 at home.

He was born at his home in Herkimer, New York, the son of Amos and Katherine Maurice on Jan. 9, 1936. He graduated from Saint Francis de Sales, Herkimer High School and the University of St. Bonaventure. He married Joan Skinner on Oct. 3, 1959 at St. Mary’s in Little Falls, New York, where they recently renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary. Maurice served in the Army Reserve. He worked as an accountant at Sperry Unysis for most of his life, which brought about his move to Salt Lake City in 1976. He was a Fourth Degree Knight and member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He was a member of the Sandy Senior Center and a pinochle player. He loved and supported his family and believed in the importance of family togetherness. He taught his children to be honest and hard-working, mostly by his example.

He leaves behind his wife; their seven children Janet (Guy) Ayers, John (Tracey), Kathy (Mike) Wilkinson, Janine, Richard, Mike (Tina), Francis (Andrea); and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gianni Joseph.

A funeral mass was held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
