Kearns-Saint Ann’s 4th- and 5th-grade students attended a dress rehearsal of "The Nutcracker" ballet at the Capitol Theater on Nov. 28. It was a special day in two ways: Many of the students had never seen "The Nutcracker" ballet before, and they had invited their pastor, Father Mike Sciumbato, to join them on his birthday. Entering the lobby of the Capitol Theater, the students were awed by the giant nutcrackers standing guard before the theater’s entrance. As they were escorted to their seats by an usher, they marveled at the spectacular chandeliers and festive Christmas décor that adorned the theater. Each student, teacher, chaperone and Father Mike anxiously awaited the overture and to see the curtain rise. "The Nutcracker" was everything that the students expected. When they exited the theater, Santa was in the lobby and handed each student a sweet treat and thanked them for coming. Upon their return to school, everyone celebrated "Father Mike’s" birthday with pizza, sodas and birthday cake.
