This past week I met with Marie Nelson and Pieter and Teena Scholte to discuss several matters regarding the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. We spent some time planning the Order’s April 2, 2011 retreat and Mass.  We also discussed the annual collection for the Holy Land. This collection is taken up every Good Friday in all of our parishes to support the works of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land. This year we are offering the Reverend Pastors the opportunity to take the collection up on Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday). The plight of Christians in the Holy Land is becoming more and more severe and our support for our brothers and sisters who live in and near the holy places is more urgent than ever. Therefore, just before Lent I will be sending all parishes a letter encouraging them to consider taking up this important collection on Passion Sunday, where there are more people who can contribute to this worthwhile cause.
