Leonor “Nora” Fabiola Bernal Trujillo
December 17, 1941 ~ February 29, 2024
Leonor “Nora” Fabiola Bernal Trujillo lost her battle with cancer February 29, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born December 17, 1941, in Cleveland, New Mexico, to Manuel G. Bernal and Mary Sanchez Bernal. The family then moved to Green River, Wyoming, where they stayed until she was 19.
Nora met and married the love of her life, Leo Donald Trujillo, on December 8, 1961, in Green River, Wyoming. They moved to Lark, Utah for the next four months before moving to Salt Lake City, where they proceeded to establish a life and family of their own.
Nora worked for the Salt Lake City School District for 10 years as a teacher’s aide at Glendale Elementary and Whittier Elementary for two years. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish. Nora and her husband Leo, amongst other parishioners, started the Saint Patrick’s Spanish Choir, which was active for more than 20 years.
Some of Nora’s hobbies were taking pictures and developing them into scrapbooks, doing crossword puzzles and baking her famous cookies, which were passed down from her mother. Nora was an early bird who enjoyed getting up very early and having her coffee with whomever of her kids stopped by to visit or just to watch the news together.
Nora had tremendous love for her family and worked hard to make sure everyone came together often and shared many traditions. She definitely loved to throw great parties and invited everyone, even the new neighbors. Nora always greeted you at the door with a smile. She loved shopping and going out to lunch afterwards. Nora was the matriarch of the family. She left an incredible mark on all who loved her. She will definitely be missed.
Survived by husband Leo Donald Trujillo; daughter Susan Ochoa Duran and husband John Duran; son David Trujillo (late fiancé Lisa Underwood); son Paul Trujillo and fiancé Suzie Suarez; son Philip Trujillo and wife Christine Lettig Trujillo; daughter Lori Trujillo Navarro and husband Oscar Navarro; brother Carlos Bernal; sister Theresa Bernal; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katie Bernal Mares Dominguez, brother Joe Bernal, brother Gilbert Bernal, grandchild Christopher, and great-granddaughter Christina Maribel.
A funeral Mass was celebrated March 8, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Salt Lake City. Committal at Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery.
