WENDOVER — The community of San Felipe Catholic Parish recently has been receiving many blessings in the form of evangelization through the radio.

Some weeks ago, Father Jose Barrera Hernandez, pastor of San Felipe Parish, who is also the coordinator of Hispanic Media Radio, arranged to begin transmitting his Sunday noon Spanish Mass through Radio KDUT La Gran D 102.3 FM station.

“The Mass is transmitted directly from San Felipe Parish,” said Fr. Barrera, who invites the Spanish-speaking Catholic community from Utah and beyond who, for whatever reason, cannot physically attend Mass to tune into the station every Sunday for the liturgy.

“We want everyone who cannot leave their houses, have health problems or cannot attend because of work or other time restraints to be able to listen to God’s word,” Fr. Barrera said. “People can tune into the Mass while they are driving, or anywhere they are, even with their phones.”

By downloading the myTunerRadio app “anyone anywhere can listen to the Mass,” he said; it also can be accessed through www. lagrandsaltlake.com

“Now more than ever God’s people are hungry for God,” he said, and technology is a good medium for people to listen to the Word.

To be able to evangelize through the radio is also a way “to take advantage of all the possibilities [technology and communication media] that we have,” he added.

As people listen to the Mass, they can also make petitions for their families, friends “or others who are going through struggles; it is also an opportunity to give thanks to God for all the blessings that he pours in our families and towns,” Fr. Barrera said.

Petitions may be sent to www.sanfelipewendover.org.

Fr. Barrera also is offering an early-morning radio show in Spanish titled “La Palabra en tu camino,” (“The Word of Your Path”).

The 30-minute show, transmitted every Monday at 5 a.m. “is to accompany those who are up early to go to work,” Fr. Barrera said. “Its purpose is to help believers invoke God since the sunrise.”

The show’s title makes allusion to two main ideas, he said. “First, that as you go through the roads to your work you may be dealing with traffic or with a worry of your daily life, and God crosses our path to brighten up the minds in our early decision.”

Secondly, the show helps to plant the idea that through life’s paths “we are all pilgrims, and God is always walking the path next to us,” he said.
