OREM — Maria Angela Augustina "Tina" Montoya Martinez, 82, died Feb. 22, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Orem. Martinez was born May 31, 1926, to Epifanio and Desideria Gutirrez Montoya in Dolores, Colo. She married Manuel M. Martinez Aug. 14, 1944. Martinez worked for the Alpine School District for 21 years. She served as president of many organizations such as Parish Council, Council of Women, and Leisure Ladies. She was instrumental in activating the Guadalupana Society, and active in the Legion of Mary. She was Mother of the Year for the State of Utah and a Woman of the Year for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). Martinez was proud to be the Queen Mother of the Orem Red Hat Ladies chapter, and lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary. Her first love was her family, with whom she shared her unconditional love, wit, and humor. She is survived by her children, Mary Roselita Brunner, Chicago, Ill., Manny (Carole) Martinez, Lorraine Martinez, Angela Martinez, Sylvia (Lance) D’Ambrosio, Dale (Caren) Martinez, Dean (Karen) Martinez; grandchildren, Brannon Martinez, Mathew (Jennifer) Brunner, Daniel Brunner, Drew D’Ambrosio, Mario D’Ambrosio, Christian Martinez, Alex Martinez, Danielle Martinez, Tia Martinez, D. J. Martinez; brothers, Leo Montoya, Alex (Flossie) Montoya; in-laws, Ubaldo Miera, Delina Montoya, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment was at East Lawn Cemetery.
