September 19, 1939 ~ June 20, 2023
Mary “Angie” Duran Gallegos, 83, of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on June 20, 2023, surrounded by family. Angie was born on September 19, 1939, to Rufina Martinez and Diego Duran in Fruita, Colorado. In 1950 she relocated to Salt Lake City, where she met Benjamin “Benny” Gallegos. They married in 1974 and began their life’s journey together. Family was the center of her world. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and compassion towards others, including animals, especially her dogs Lola and Luna.
Angie enjoyed spending time in Wendover and playing Bingo. She spent most of her time with her daughter Debra; they were two peas in a pod. Anywhere Debra went Angie was sure to be; they were inseparable. She enjoyed being in the comfort of her home with the support of her grandson John and granddaughter Nikki. We will without a doubt miss her kindhearted soul. We love and will miss you, and your God blesses, and I love you’s.
Angie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband Benjamin Gallegos, sister Mary Sandoval, and brother and sister-in-law Tommy and Joy Duran. She is survived by her children Debra Candelaria and Cindy Martinez (Dennis Martinez); grandchildren John, Chantell (Ralph Alvillar), Jose, Joshua, Joseph, Daniel; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; goddaughter Liz Alvarez; and numerous nieces and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for Jose Guanajuato, whom she considered a son.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on June 28 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Salt Lake City. A graveside service was held immediately after at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
