1922~2024
Mary Busico Cerroni, an extraordinary woman of great faith, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on August 30, 2024, at the age of 102.
She was the seventh of 10 children born to Chiarina and Vincenzo Busico, who immigrated to Tooele from Agnone, Italy. She grew up in “New Town” and was exceedingly proud of her Italian heritage. She married Joseph Cerroni on January 19, 1946, and they had one child, their cherished son, John.
Mary was a devout Catholic and her faith guided her life. She held many positions at St. Marguerite Parish in Tooele as well as in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. She was privileged to personally meet Mother Teresa of Calcutta and to attend a gathering where Pope John Paul II was in attendance. She served as president of the Council of Catholic Women and was honored to be chosen as St. Marguerite Parish’s “Woman of the Year” in 1983. She also served on the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Mary was widely known and respected throughout the state, and especially in Tooele for her friendship, kindness and support.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Joe; her son John and his wife Deana and their daughter Christy; her brothers Tony Busico (Anna Marie), Joseph Busico (Maurine); her sisters Edith Morrell (Alzo), Lena Teter (Herman), Pearl Miller (Gene), Annie Gordon (Gerald), Angie Burris (Lloyd) and Louise Busico. She is survived by her grandsons Tony Cerroni (Kriselle), J.T. Cerroni (Emily); great-grandsons Dante, Rossi, Enzo; and her sister Dollie Gregrich (Richard).
A special thank you to the medical staff for their care, including Dr. Paul Satter for his exceptional care as well as Canyon Home Care and Hospice staff. We truly appreciate the dedication and sincere spirit of Father Rafael Murillo of St. Marguerite Parish and the countless prayers and blessings from the office staff. We have the utmost appreciation for the ladies in the Council of Catholic Women, as well as the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
